Knife: The Bulldog is a serious tactical knife, field proven and battle
ready, and though most of my Bulldogs are made for
combat use, I've made this one fine enough for collection. The
blade shape is a spear point, with a deep hollow grind from a 10"
diameter wheel with a three
quarter length top swage to increase piercing profile without
sacrificing spine strength. So it is very thin at the cutting edge and
point, but with a thick spine that makes the knife very strong overall.
Ground from quarter-inch thick stock, the
spine and thickest part of the knife is a full .238"
and has a wide front quillion and thumb rise for maximum safety to the
user. The knife was designed to be unsheathed and held in a tactical
grip style but is also comfortably held with a traditional grip style.
The 440C blade is finely ground and mirror polished
throughout, for long lasting beauty and high value. The tang is fully
tapered, yet has sufficient thickness to support the rear finger ring.
The ring is fully ground and polished for a smooth feel. The blade is
fully fileworked, with a staggered and regimented design, and rounded at
the handle tang for comfort. The bolsters are zero-care 304 austenitic
high nickel, high chromium stainless steel. They are dovetailed and hold
two beautiful blocks of brightly polished Crazy Lace Agate gemstone, a
very hard, tough, and stunning handle material with bold and intricate
patterns, flow banding, chalcedony interspersions, and crystalline
inclusions. This is fascinating material, and each piece is unique. The
knife feels smooth and comfortable in the hand, strong and solid.
Sheath: I made a striking sheath for this special knife,
from 9 - 10 oz. thick leather shoulder, hand-carved to bed
several panels of Caiman Skin. The Caiman is tough, durable, and
characteristic with deep scales and a bold pattern that goes
well with the intricate Crazy Lace Agate. The sheath is deep and
protective, hand-stitched in a tight pattern with polyester
sinew, dyed a medium brown, lacquered and sealed.
