Knowledge is Power

Some sites list dozens or maybe hundreds of links that apply to their theme. Though knowledge is power, too much information only clouds and distracts. So I try to keep it simple and pertinent to this site.

I'm constantly asked to endorse, link, or post a comment or link to a site by other webmasters or business interests, mostly to stir interest and direct Internet traffic their way. If it's not relevant to why you are here, why would I distract you? I'll try to keep this page lean and fundamental.

The United States Air Force Pararescue

This is the Wikipedia link for the PJs. Please take a few moments to learn about our nation's top military rescue service. I've been honored to make knives for Pararescue, and invite their input and designs in my CSAR, CQC, and CQB military combat and rescue knives. These guys are incredible. "That Others May Live"

SERE: Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape

This is the Wikipedia link to Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape programs. I've worked with several military combat SERE entities on combat survival knives. These people have offered great insight, ideas, designs, and accessory applications that I've incorporated into my knives. "Return With Honor"

Tom Clancy's Work

The Wikipedia link to information about Tom Clancy. Read Tom's quote about my work on my home page here. If you're young, you might recognize Ghost Recon, Op Center, or Net Force. If you're older, you might know Jack Ryan and John Clark, characters in Tom's novels. These are all creations by Tom Clancy. Tom is the world's top selling military author and historian and I'm honored that he's commissioned my work over the years.

Knife Sharpening

The websites that sell this book are numerous, so I'll just describe the book with the pertinent information.

It's important to note that sharpening by hand is not in everybody's realm; but this is a good place to start to understand the simplicity and importance of cutting edge angles and how to establish them. This is not the entire, modern text on the subject, but it's a very good basic source to understand the fundamentals of relief, edges, angles, and method.

John Juranitch worked as a professional cutting edge consultant to the meat packing, textile, and materials industries for over 40 years. In the early 1980s, he wrote a simple, logical, and invaluable book about sharpening knives and other edges. It may be dated, but the simplistic angles and methods are proven and used in industries worldwide. I recommend it to everyone who wants to know how to properly sharpen a knife; it is the definitive text on knife sharpening. You can find it on Amazon or numerous places on the web.
