Knife: The "Last Chance" is a proven design of mine, made with and for law
enforcement carry as a last chance tool and defensive
weapon. It's also been a great and proven working tool, with plenty
of features and original style. The blade is razor-keen 440 high chromium
stainless steel, a martensitic stainless steel chosen for its
extremely high corrosion resistance, great wear characteristics and
high toughness. This is the same fine tool steel used to make water
resistant ball bearings, high pressure valve seats, and industrial
shear blades for corrosive atmospheres. I hollow ground the blade
smoothly and cleanly, with accurately matched grinds and nicely
radiused grind terminations for great blade-to-handle strength. The tanto blade
grind offers an aggressive point and an additional tough secondary
point where the two straight edges meet. The spine has a full length top
swage to reduce point profile for piercing without sacrificing tip strength, and the
blade is smooth and clean with no filework. The tang is fully
tapered and the handle is bolstered with zero care, high nickel,
high chromium austenitic stainless steel. The front bolster is
contoured and faced, the rear bolster has a 1/4" chamfered and
polished lanyard hole through the tang for extra security if needed.
The bolsters are smooth and polished brightly, and are dovetailed to
bed a pair of Australian Black Nephrite Jade gemstone handle scales.
This jade is extremely tough, in fact, nephrite is the toughest
mineral on earth. With a bright, glassy polish, the jade is even and clean, and with the flawless
blending with the stainless steel bolsters and tang, this is one of
the smoothest, silkiest handles I've ever made. The knife feels
wonderful in the hand.
Sheath: I've made one of my
positively locking waterproof sheaths in
double-thickness kydex thermoformed over a 5052H32 high strength,
corrosion resistant aluminum alloy welt frame, secured with nickel
plated steel Chicago screws. The locking mechanism is all stainless
steel for the ultimate in corrosion resistance, and the die-formed
high strength aluminum belt loops are reversible as well as able to
be positioned in several locations along the welt lines.
A classy, practical ,and useful knife, tool, and back-up in the highest quality.
