Weight: Knife:4.0 oz. (113 grams) Sheath: 3.6 oz.
(102 grams)
Blade: 440C High Chromium Martensitic Stainless Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C57, hollow ground and satin finished
Bolsters, Fittings: Brass, mirror polished
Handle: African Sandalwood (Tamboti) hardwood
Sheath: Hand-tooled leather
Knife: A handsome small drop point knife, the
Mirach is named for a bright star in the constellation Andromeda.
This Mirach is a great working knife with a clean satin finished
440C high chromium stainless steel blade, hollow ground. The drop
point makes the knife easy to sheath, and the thin blade has just
the right geometry for a long-lived cutting edge after repeated
sharpenings. The grind is perfectly radiused at the termination, the
lead-off preserves just enough spine for good strength. The knife is
easy to clean with no filework and the tang is tapered to reduce
handle weight while the deep choil gives a good place to start the
cutting edge. My client requested the knife to be fitted with brass,
so the bolsters and pins are warm and brightly polished. The
bolsters are dovetailed and bed a pair of beautiful African
Sandalwood (Tamboti) hardwood handle scales that are smoothly
polished and smell great! The knife is light in the blade for
accurate work with a good length of grip in the handle for control.
Sheath: The sheath for this Mirach is simple
and clean, made of leather shoulder, hand-tooled with a tidy
pattern, and hand-stitched with polyester sinew for great toughness
and longevity. The belt loop is double-row stitched for strength,
and the sheath is dyed a rich medium brown, and sealed for
resistance against the elements.
This is one of a matching pair. See photos below and other knife
