"Vindicator" with Lapis Lazuli Gemstone handle |
The Mirach is named for a star in the constellation Andromeda, and this knife pattern is a legacy pattern left to us by Gerry Hurst. The clean, simple drop point blade design is useful for utility, kitchen, and every day cutting chores. This Mirach has a blade of RWL 34, a powder metal technology tool steel that is an early version of many powder steel technology steels to come. It's a martensitic stainless tool steel, with high fracture resistance and high wear resistance. This clean blade is mirror polished, and has just a bit of filework on the spine for some thumb purchase. The tang is fully tapered for balance and the handle is very lightweight with no bolsters and solid, impermeable handle scales of pressure stabilized and dyed Box Elder Burl hardwood, a phenolic-impregnated wood that is waterproof and tough. The handle scales are bedded and secured with 304 stainless steel pins and a 304 stainless steel lanyard hole liner for security. The knife rests in a hand-carved and tooled sheath of 9 oz. leather shoulder, dyed dark green with black, hand-stitched in polyester sinew. This is a tough, lightweight knife.
