Combat Control Team professional in the 26th Special Tactics
Squadron of the United States Air Force for his combat achievements,
this is a presentation grade and working tactical knife, made to use
and carry in the field, retiring after service to a custom made wall
plaque. The PJSK Viper is one of my series of counterterrorism
combat skeletonized knives, made to be extremely lightweight, as
robust as possible, and with special features all around. The blade
steel is 440C, my most often requested combat knife material used by
special tactics and military professionals because of its tremendous
corrosion resistance, high toughness, and high wear resistance. I
made this blade as good as it can possibly be, with cryogenic
quenching in heat treatment, followed by triple tempering with
cryogenic thermal cycling for the best combination and results in
chromium carbides, iron carbides, and excellent stability in use. The blade is thick, over 1/4" for high durability, with 4.5"
of thin, hollow ground tanto-point cutting edge, razor keen. The
blade has 2.25" of my hammerhead serrations for ripping through
tough materials and a three quarters length top swage for reduced
point profile and good penetration. The handle is a milled
"footprint" design handle with full thickness, and all rounded, smoothed,
and contoured surfaces for a comfortable grip and light weight. The
knife is custom engraved.
- Sheath: Versatility is
critical and a necessary function of the professional knife
ensemble. This sheath is a professional
assembly, clearly, the best tactical sheath and accessory
package made in the world. It's also an example of my commitment to making the finest combat tactical, and rescue knives
and sheaths on the planet. It starts with double thickness
coyote brown (.125")
kydex (methyl acrylate and polyvinylchloride), hot-formed over an
anodized aluminum
welt frame of 5052 high strength corrosion resistant aluminum
alloy in H32 hardness. The body and welts are secured with bead blasted
and slotted tan oxide 304 stainless steel Chicago
screws for the ultimate in durability with no care and no glare. The sheath is
one of my reliable hybrid tension-locking models, securing the
knife with tension until high strength or physical displacement of
the mechanism allows removal of the knife. This usually takes about
15 pounds of pressure, but two additional spring plates in 6AL4V
titanium (not shown) offer a variety of tension options. The
user can choose his best tension, and the entire
retention arrangement is reversible. Everything on the sheath is
highly corrosion resistant, even the machine screws are all stainless steel
and all titanium is anodized. The sheath
can be worn in any position, even upside down when worn with the
die-formed high alloy aluminum belt loops and belt straps
on PALS webbing and every conceivable arrangement of combat gear.
The belt loops can be located in multiple positions along the welt
frame and are reversible for a variety of wear options. This
spacing also allows the array of my sheath accessories to mate with
and locate in multiple positions along the welts, and allows the
knife to be mounted to virtually any gear in any position! The flashplate is removable for
field use, and the plaque sits at home or base ready for retirement
of the knife after missions and use. The plaque is ash hardwood,
stained in cherry, sealed and varnished with polyurethane for
longevity. The hangers are steel covered with nylon and foam rubber,
attached with stainless steel screws, and the commemorative plate is
engraved scarlet lacquered brass.
- It's an honor to make knives for our nations top Special Tactics
combat professionals, and both the donation from my special clients
combined with my own donation is what brings this all together.
Thanks to the benefactor, R. F. for his kindness and support of our
military.
