Pecos II
"Pecos II" Fine Handmade Knife
- Size: Length overall: 7.25" (18.4cm), Blade Length: 4" (10.1cm), Thickness: .125" (.32cm)
- Blade: ATS-34 High Molybdenum Stainless Tool Steel, Hardened and Tempered to Rockwell C59, mirror polished
- Fittings/Bolsters: hand-engraved low carbon steel
- Handle: Polished Jasper from New Mexico
- Sheath 1: Open/Display style, Sharkskin Inlaid in Hand-Tooled 9-10 oz. Leather Shoulder
- Sheath 2: Cross draw style, Frog skin inlaid in hand-tooled 9-10 oz. leather Shoulder
- Knife: The Pecos II is the evolution of the original
Pecos knife I have made for many years. The long trailing point is sleek and elegant,
the ATS-34 High Molybdenum Stainless makes it very tough and wear resistant. The
handle shape is for a palm grip, and rests comfortably in the hand. The blade
has a fully tapered tang and full filework, from spine to choil in
my Royale pattern. The bolsters are engraved in deep relief textured
background with inward swept leaves. The handle is an unusual hard jasper,
featuring plays of white veins, gold splashes, and tiny crystal pockets in a
field of red and is native to New Mexico.
- Sheaths: The first sheath is an open or display type
sheath for display of the knife's embellishment
and gemstone, while still protecting the razor-keen cutting edge and accurate
point. The sheath has three full inlays of sharkskin against a dark red,
hand-tooled 9-10 oz. leather shoulder sheath, stitched with polyester sinew.
A second sheath was requested by the buyer, a cross draw sheath that I
hand-tooled and inlaid with frog skin. A beautiful combo.
Thanks, D.B.!
Hi Jay,
My Pecos II arrived in pristine condition. This is absolutely a work of art and the pictures on the
website will never be able to fully capture the essence of this knife. As I suspected,
the only thing that I want to do with it is display it proudly on my wall for everyone to
see and for me to keep it in the condition that it arrived in. I will take it out and
handle it, I will polish and protect it and I will show everyone who comes over.
Then I will put it back in its display case and threaten to kill anyone who leaves finger prints on
it...
Really Jay, you do amazing work. Thank you for the patience that you show when I'm asking questions and
the time that you take to add some personal notes in our email conversations. It makes me feel like I'm
doing business with a friend and when you take the time to get to know your clients it makes the
experience that much more enjoyable.
I'm looking forward to the next addition to my family...that one I intend to actually cut something
with :)
